Our Story: Autism at Face Value

Comics, Tabletop Gaming, and Video Games.

Autism at Face Value (AFV) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit founded by Dave and Angela Kot in 2013 in Central Pennsylvania. Our mission is to connect individuals on the autism spectrum with opportunities in the gaming and comic book communities.
We focus on three main pillars: helping autistic people feel safe, wanted and successful. These pillars allow us to foster inclusion, creativity, and community for neurodivergent individuals.

World’s First Comic Character with Autism!

Autism at Face Value was a dream realized after publishing the world’s first first comic book to ever feature an autistic hero! From there, Dave and Angela have grown their mission into a community-driven platform; as well as publishing 11 more in comic series which showcase the talents of other local autistic creators. Their flagship mentorship program also helped new creators navigate the comic world, continuing to support and share diverse artists.

Gaming as Therapy

In 2022, Dave’s therapeutic expertise expanded into tabletop gaming with a mission to provide safe inclusive spaces for neurodivergent individuals. Therapeutic style games are designed to help participants connect, communicate, and practice working together while having fun.
Dave also worked to develop what we now use as our AFV Safety Tools for Therapeutic Tabletop Role-Playing Games. guide, which we use to verify all of our Approved Game Hosts. Bringing inclusive spaces to more players at gaming tables across Pennsylvania and beyond.
